Broncos, Charles Reach Contract Agreement

The Denver Broncos and running back Jamaal Charles have reached a 1-year, $900 thousand contract agreement that can be worth up to $3.75 million with incentives.

Charles, 30, has played in the NFL for 9 seasons, all with the Kansas City Chiefs. Over his 9-year NFL career, Charles has played in 103 games and carried the ball 1,332 times for 7,260 rushing yards (5.5 average rushing yards per carry) and 43 rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 285 passes for 2,457 receiving yards (8.6 average receiving yards per reception) and 20 receiving touchdowns.

Last season, Charles played in just 3 games and carried the ball 12 times for 40 rushing yards (3.5 average rushing yards per carry). He has also caught 2 passes for 14 receiving yards (7.0 average receiving yards per reception). He was placed on Injured Reserve about half way through the season.

Charles’ career highs in an NFL season are 16 games played (2008, 2010, and 2012), 285 rush attempts (2012), 1,509 rushing yards (2012), 6.4 average rushing yards per carry (2010; 6.9 average in 2011 does not qualify), 12 rushing touchdowns (2013), 70 receptions (2013), 693 receiving yards (2013), 10.4 average receiving yards per reception (2010), and 7 receiving touchdowns (2013).
