Kansas Lands Lawson Brother Transfers

The Kansas Jayhawks’ mens basketball team has landed two transfers from the Memphis Tigers who happen to be brothers. Sophomore guard Dedric Lawson and freshman guard KJ Lawson both spent two seasons playing for the Tigers, but KJ was given a medical redshirt after appearing in only 10 games in the 2015-2016 season. Now, they are both transferring to Kansas to play for the Jayhawks in at least the 2017-2018 season.

Dedric Lawson, 19, is coming off of a season in which he played in 32 games and averaged 34.5 minutes per game, 19.2 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game, 2.1 blocks per game, and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 46.1% from the field, 27.0% from 3-point range, and 74.1% from the free throw line.

Over his 2-year NCAA career, Dedric Lawson has played in 65 games and averaged 33.3 minutes per game, 17.5 points per game, 9.6 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, 1.9 blocks per game, and 1.2 steals per game. His career shooting percentages are 43.5% from the field, 30.4% from 3-point range, and 72.6% from the free throw line.

KJ Lawson, 20, is coming off of a season in which he played in 32 games and averaged 33.7 minutes per game, 12.3 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, 0.4 blocks per game, and 0.5 steals per game. He shot 39.9% from the field, 32.8% from 3-point range, and 69.5% from the free throw line.

Over his 2-year NCAA career, KJ Lawson has played in 42 games and averaged 30.4 minutes per game, 11.5 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 0.5 blocks per game, and 0.5 steals per game. His career shooting percentages are 39.4% from the field, 31.6% from 3-point range, and 68.6% from the free throw line.
