He shot 80.0% from the field, which led all players in the country, and 58.9% from the free throw line.
Over his 2-year NCAA basketball career, Cacok has played in 64 games and averaged 18.3 minutes per game, 8.3 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, 0.3 assists per game, 0.8 blocks per game, and 0.8 steals per game. The Colonial Athletic Association tournament champion Seahawks advanced to the Round of 64 this past season in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament before being eliminated by the Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 76-71.
Here is the Q&A we were able to conduct with Cacok.
How did you decide on UNC Wilmington?
Well when I was getting recruited, my main reason for coming to Wilmington was because of Kevin Keatts. I believed in what he had planned for UNCW.
What has been your biggest highlight in your NCAA basketball career?
I think my biggest highlight from my NCAA basketball career was probably setting the school record of 24 rebounds in a game.
What has been your biggest disappointment in your NCAA basketball career?
My biggest disappointment was not advancing past the first round of the NCAA tournament.
What basketball players/teams were you a fan of growing up?
My favorite basketball team is the Chicago Bulls and my favorite players are Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard.
Is your goal to make it to the NBA? If not, what is your career goal?
My goal is to make it to the NBA. It’s been my dream since I realized that I loved the game.
What are some of the advantages in your mind of playing for a smaller school like UNC Wilmington as opposed to a larger school?
One of the advantages of playing at a smaller school is that I feel like there’s a lot of love here in this city. Everyone looks at UNCW basketball as being the joy to the city and we love it.
How did you get to be so efficient with the basketball, particularly around the rim?
Well my efficiency just kind of happens lol, I just try to practice my touches around the rim and go from there.
What do you enjoy besides basketball?
I enjoy being with my teammates, friends, and my dog when I’m not playing.
Question 9 (Conducted prior to 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship Game)
Last but not least, who are you pulling for in Phoenix tomorrow night?
I’m pulling for my new coach and UNC to get the championship, hoping they get it done.
