Adrian Peterson To Become Free Agent

The Minnesota Vikings have declined to pick running back Adrian Peterson’s option. Peterson will now become a free agent.

Peterson, 31, has played in the NFL for 10 seasons, all with the Vikings. Over his 10-year NFL career, Peterson has played in 123 games and carried the ball 2,418 times for 11,747 rushing yards (4.9 average rushing yards per carry) and 97 rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 241 passes for 1,945 receiving yards (8.1 average receiving yards per reception) and 5 receiving touchdowns.

Last season, Peterson played in just 3 games and carried the ball 37 times for 72 rushing yards (1.9 average rushing yards per carry). He has also caught 3 passes for 8 receiving yards (2.7 average receiving yards per reception). He was placed on Injured Reserve about half way through the season.

Peterson’s career highs in an NFL season are 16 games played (2008, 2009, 2012, and 2015), 363 rush attempts (2008), 2,097 rushing yards (2012), 6.0 average rushing yards per carry (2012), 18 rushing touchdowns (2009), 43 receptions (2009), 436 receiving yards (2009), 14.1 average receiving yards per reception (2007), and 1 receiving touchdown (2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
