Nationals, Wieters Reach Contract Agreement

The Washington Nationals and catcher Matt Wieters have reached a 2-year, $21 million contract agreement.

Wieters, 30, has been in the MLB for 8 seasons, all with the Baltimore Orioles. This past season, he played in 124 games and bat .243 with 103 hits, 48 runs scored, 17 home runs, 66 runs batted in, and 1 stolen base. Over his 8-year MLB career, Wieters has played in 882 games and has a .256 batting average with 802 hits, 355 runs scored, 117 home runs, 437 runs batted in, and 7 stolen bases.

Wieters’ career highs for a single MLB season are a .288 batting average (2009; .308 batting average in 2014 does not qualify), 131 hits (2011 and 2012), 72 runs scored (2011), 23 home runs (2012), 83 runs batted in (2012), and 3 stolen bases (2012).
