If you did at all see any of the scorelines from Tuesday’s games, which included a 4-0 handling of Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and a 1-0 defeat for Dortmund, who could not get their attack going against Benfica.
Both results are nearly the opposite of what I predicted. My picks were a 2-1 Barcelona victory, and a 3-0 Dortmund victory. PSG found ways to shut down the powerful offense of Barcelona and managed to get through their defense to score four goals. Benfica had a solid game on defense, and they took their opportunities from Dortmund as well, which is why they were able to nail home a big win in this first leg of the knockout stage.
The teams will meet again on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017, for the second leg of the round of 16. Dortmund will have their work cut out from them if they want to come back from recent loss. However, Barcelona might just need a miracle if they want to win on aggregate.
