The Cameroon Lions have defeated the Egypt Pharaohs by a score of 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations final. This is the Lions’ fifth title, and their first in 15 years. The new Cameroon coach, Hugo Broos, has shown he can deliver silverware back to the nation that has missed it for so long.
Supersub Vincent Aboubakar delivered a brilliant 88th minute volley to put his team up 2-1 to secure the win for Cameroon. Mohamed Elneny put Egypt ahead in the 22nd minute with a fantastic strike into the roof of the net, but Nicolas N’Koulou did one better and equalized it in the 59th minute. The game was tense from that point on, up until the final whistle, until Cameroon was crowned the champion after the fairy tale-like path they took to get there.
