The Boston Celtics (32-18) defeated the Los Angeles Lakers (17-36) at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, by a score of 113-107 to become the first team in NBA history to notch their 3,253th all-time victory as an NBA franchise.
Both the Celtics and the Lakers entered the game tied for the NBA lead with 3,252 all-time victories in the histories of their respective franchises, a category that the Lakers had had the lead in since the 2001 season back when they surpassed the Celtics in it.
Now, after meeting and battling for the NBA lead in all-time victories, the Celtics have now won more games than any other NBA franchise. Celtics’ point guard Isaiah Thomas led all players with 38 points en route to the Celtics’ historic 3,253rd all-time victory, and Lakers’ shooting guard Louis Williams led the Lakers with 21 points in an unfortunate loss that ended a 16-season run of the Lakers being the NBA team with the most all-time victories.
The Celtics are back in action on Sunday, February 5th, 2017, at home against the Los Angeles Clippers at 2:00 PM EST. They will attempt to add on to their all-time victory total and increase their margin over the Lakers. The Lakers, meanwhile, are back in action on Monday, February 6th, 2017, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, against the New York Knicks at 7:00 PM EST. They will look to potentially tie the Celtics in the all-time victories category once again.
