Former MLB third baseman Andy Marte was killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic on Sunday morning.
Marte, who was only 33 years of age, was in the MLB for 7 seasons and played for 3 different teams. In his latest season of action, which was the 2014 season, he was limited to playing in only 6 games and bat .188 with 3 hits, 1 run scored, 1 home run, and 3 runs batted in. Over his 7-year MLB career, Marte played in 308 games and had a .218 batting average with 186 hits, 86 runs scored, 21 home runs, 99 runs batted in, and 1 stolen base.
Marte’s career highs in a single MLB season were a .232 batting average (2009 with the Cleveland Indians), 52 hits (2008 with the Indians), 21 runs scored (2008 with the Indians), 6 home runs (2009 with the Indians), 25 runs batted in (2009 with the Indians), and 1 stolen base (2008 with the Indians).
Andy Marte will be sadly missed by the MLB community, including but not limited to coaches, players, and fans, as well as his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends through these times of trial.
