After a completely uneventful season for Memphis Depay this year, it seems like his talents will be going to France, where he will play for Olympique Lyonnais in the French Ligue 1. The transfer was confirmed Wednesday morning by Lyon club president, Jean-Michel Aulas.
“I obtained from Manchester United the agreement in principle, which remains to be ironed out, but is on a higher basis than the information being circulated,” Said Aulas to L’Equipe.
The 22-year-old dutch winger will most likely see a substantial increase in playing time from here, as he will be much more useful under a manager that does want him.
Memphis played a total of 16 minutes this season, coming off the bench just once in a 4-0 victory in the Europa League match vs Feyenoord. Since signing with Manchester United in 2015, during the Louis van Gaal era, Memphis has only scored seven goals in 52 appearances, despite being dubbed “The Next Ronaldo”.
