Rockies, Desmond Reach Contract Agreement

The Colorado Rockies and center fielder Ian Desmond have reached a 5-year, $70 million contract agreement.

Desmond, 31, has been in the MLB for 8 seasons and has played for 2 different teams. This past season, he played in 156 games and bat .285 with 178 hits, 107 runs scored, 22 home runs, 86 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. Over his 8-year MLB career, Desmond has played in 1,083 games and has a .267 batting average with 1,095 hits, 531 runs scored, 132 home runs, 518 runs batted in, and 143 stolen bases.

Desmond’s career highs for a single MLB season are a .292 batting average (2012 with the Washington Nationals), 178 hits (2016 with the Texas Rangers), 107 runs scored (2016 with the Rangers), 25 home runs (2012 with the Nationals), 91 runs batted in (2014 with the Nationals), and 25 stolen bases (2011 with the Nationals).
