Following the #4 Washington Huskies’ blowout win over the #8 Colorado Buffaloes in the Pac-12 Conference championship game, here is what we know about how the College Football Playoff (CFP) field of four teams will likely shape out.
“IN” means that the team should be into the CFP, “STILL ALIVE” means that the team still has a chance to get into the CFP, while “OUT” means that there is hardly a chance that the team will get into the CFP.
#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0) – Play in SEC championship game; cannot finish lower than 12-1.
#2 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) – Best non-conference champion; cannot lose this weekend.
#4 Washington Huskies (12-1) – Pac-12 Conference champion.
#3 Clemson Tigers (11-1) – Play in ACC championship game.
- WIN AND IN
#6 Wisconsin Badgers (10-2) / #7 Pennsylvania State Nittany Lions (10-2) – Play in Big Ten Conference championship game; winner should jump Michigan in CFP Rankings; Clemson loss needed.
- WIN AND IN WITH CLEMSON LOSS
#5 Michigan Wolverines- (10-2) – One CFP spot left, and at least two teams not named Alabama on this list will still become Power Five conference champions.
#9 Oklahoma Sooners (9-2) / #10 Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-2) – Play in Big XII Conference championship game; winner will not jump Big Ten Conference champion.
