New England Patriots’ tight end Rob Gronkowski is scheduled to undergo back surgery on Friday according to multiple sources. Gronkowski is said to have suffered a ruptured disk, which will make him miss at least eight weeks. He suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s win against the New York Jets. At first, many believed it would not be a serious injury, but it turned out otherwise.
He did suffer a punctured lung after taking a big hit from Seattle Seahawks’ safety Earl Thomas and did not play against the San Francisco 49ers. So far this season, he has 25 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns in six games. Martellus Bennett will now play in a bigger part of the offense for the Patriots. Offensive tackle Cameron Fleming, who did see a couple of snaps during the Jets game, is the backup tight end option for the team.
