Easiest Way for Each Serious Contender to Get into the CFP

These are the 10 NCAA football teams that still have a legitimately decent chance to get into this season’s College Football Playoff (CFP) and what the easiest way to get into the CFP is for each of them and where they will likely be seeded if everything goes the way they need it to go.

bama #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0)

  • Alabama will likely be in the CFP regardless of what happens this weekend.
  • Win the SEC championship game over the Florida Gators.

ohiost #2 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)

  • Ohio State will likely be in the CFP regardless of what happens this weekend.

clem #3 Clemson Tigers (11-1)

  • Win the ACC championship game over the Virginia Tech Hokies.

wash #4 Washington Huskies (11-1)

  • Win the Pac-12 championship game over the Colorado Buffaloes.

mich #5 Michigan Wolverines (10-2)

  • Losses by the Clemson Tigers against the Virginia Tech Hokies or the Washington Huskies against the Colorado Buffaloes while the Big Ten champion, Pac-12 champion (if it is the Coloardo Buffaloes), and Big XII champion do not win convincingly over their respective opponents.

wisc #6 Wisconsin Badgers (10-2)

  • Win the Big Ten championship game convincingly over the Pennsylvania State Nittany Lions.
  • A loss by either the Clemson Tigers to the Virginia Tech Hokies or the Washington Huskies to the Colorado Buffaloes.

psu #7 Pennsylvania State Nittany Lions (10-2)

  • Win the Big Ten championship game convincingly over the Wisconsin Badgers.
  • A loss by either the Clemson Tigers to the Virginia Tech Hokies or the Washington Huskies to the Colorado Buffaloes.

colo #8 Colorado Buffaloes (10-2)

  • Win the Pac-12 championship game convincingly over the Washington Huskies while the Big Ten champion does not win convincingly over its opponent.
  • A loss by the Clemson Tigers against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

okla #9 Oklahoma Sooners (9-2)

  • Beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys convincingly in the unofficial Big XII championship game while neither the Big Ten champion nor the Pac-12 champion does not win convincingly over its opponent.
  • Losses by the Clemson Tigers against the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Washington Huskies against the Colorado Buffaloes.

  • Beat the Oklahoma Sooners convincingly in the unofficial Big XII championship game while neither the Big Ten champion nor the Pac-12 champion does not win convincingly over its opponent.
