The 2016 NASCAR Spring Cup Series championship will be decided this Sunday, November 20th, 2016, at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. Under NASCAR’s Chase rules, only the four drivers who earned the right to be in the Championship Four round of this season’s Chase for the Cup will be eligible to win the championship.
Each driver will enter the final race of the season with 5,000 championship points, and the highest finishing driver will be the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Other non-championship eligible drivers will be competing in the race also. No bonus points will be awarded for leading laps in the race
Here are the four drivers eligible to win this season’s championship.
- Logano, 26, has never finished higher than 4th place in the final NASCAR championship standings, and he did that in the 2014 season. His highest finish at Miami is 4th place, which he did in the 2015 season.
- Johnson, 41, is a 6-time NASCAR champion, with his championship victories coming in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2013 seasons. His highest finish at Miami is 2nd place, which he did in the 2004 and 2010 seasons.
- Edwards, 37, has never finished higher than 2nd place in the final NASCAR championship standings, which he did in the 2008 and 2011 seasons. He is a 2-time winner at Miami, with his wins coming in the 2008 and 2010 seasons.
- Busch, 31, was the 2015 NASCAR champion. He has one career victory at Miami, and that was in the 2015 season to seal the NASCAR championship.
