Ed Jones, 21, will likely drive the #19 Honda-powered car for Dale Coyne Racing in the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season. The car was driven by multiple drivers such as Luca Filippi, Gabby Chaves, Pippa Mann, and RC Enerson throughout the 2016 season, but Jones will likely have a full-time ride with the team this upcoming season.
Jones was the 2016 Indy Lights Series champion with Carlin Motorsport after he won two races out of 18 in the series last season. He spent two seasons in the Indy Lights Series, both with Carlin Motorsport, winning a total of five races in 34 attempts, including his first three starts in the 2015 season.
By being the 2016 Indy Lights Series champion, Jones was guaranteed a $1 million scholarship in the Verizon IndyCar Series that included driving in three races, with one of which being the Indianapolis 500. With this recent news about Jones driving for Dale Coyne Racing, it would appear that Jones will be driving in a lot more than three races in the 2017 season.
If Jones can string together a few solid results and put together a good rookie campaign and possibly be the Sunoco Rookie of the Year in the 2017 season, Jones may be looking at driving in the Verizon IndyCar Series well beyond just next season.
