What could be more perfect than last season, when Toronto Blue Jays’ right fielder Jose Bautista hit a go-ahead 3-run home run against the Texas Rangers in Game 5 to clinch the ALDS?
That’s right, another home run by the Blue Jays, but this time a walk-off home run in the AL Wild Card game against the Baltimore Orioles for the right to play against the Rangers in this year’s ALDS. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Blue Jays’ outfielder Edwin Encarnacion hit a deep bomb to the second deck off of Orioles’ pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to give the Blue Jays a 5-2 win.
Many people question the choice of Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter for not putting in Zach Britton instead of Jimenez. Some would say that Britton is a Cy young contender, and he was one of the best if not the best closer in baseball with 47 saves this season.
The next round for the Blue Jays begins on Friday with a rematch of the Rangers-Blue Jays series from last season. This should be a very interesting match up considering all of the bad blood from Jose Bautista’s bat flip last year.
