Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton exited during the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday after taking a hard hit from Falcons’ linebacker Deion Jones and did not return after being diagnosed with a concussion.
Newton completed 14 of his 25 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown before leaving. Derek Anderson took over and completed 17 of 23 passes for 175 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the 48-33 loss.
This news comes after Newton took several hits in the Week 1 match-up against the Denver Broncos, but the team stated he was fine and showed no signs of having a concussion. The Panthers play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday, which gives more time for the team to clear him.
Expect an update on his status for Week 5 later this week.
