Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden, who drives a Chevrolet-powered car, topped the speed charts in the fourth and final practice session for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, which is the final race of the season, around the 11-turn 2.385-mile natural terrain Sonoma Raceway road course in Sonoma, California with a fastest lap time of 77.6431 seconds.
Scott Dixon, Takuma Sato, Charlie Kimball, and Alexander Rossi rounded out the top 5 fastest drivers in this practice session. Each of the top 5 drivers drive Chevrolet-powered cars except for Sato and Rossi, who drive Honda-powered cars. Drivers of the Chevrolet-powered cars took the top 2, 3 of the top 4, and 5 of the top 9 spots on the speed charts in this final practice session, while drivers of the Honda-powered cars took 4 of the top 7 and 6 of the top 11 spots. The race itself will be held today, Sunday, September 18th at 6:50 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network starting at 6:30 PM ET. This race will determine the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series champion.
