Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who drives a Chevrolet-powered car, topped the speed charts in the first practice session for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race, the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Glen, around the 11-turn 3.40-mile natural terrain Watkins Glen International road course in Watkins Glen, New York with a fastest lap time of 83.8921 seconds.
Sebastien Bourdais, Will Power, Tony Kanaan, and Graham Rahal rounded out the top 5 fastest drivers in this practice session. Each of those top 5 drivers drive Chevrolet-powered cars except for Rahal, who drives a Honda-powered car. Drivers of the Chevrolet-powered cars took the top 4 and 8 of the top 9 spots on the speed charts in this first practice session. You can see full practice results at Indycar.com.
There will be 2 more practice sessions before qualifications for the race. The next practice session will be held later today at 3:30 PM ET, and the next practice session after that will be held tomorrow, Saturday, September 3rd, at 11:00 AM ET. Qualifications for the race will take place tomorrow, Saturday, September 3rd, at 6:00 PM ET, and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network. The lone practice session after qualifications will take place on the morning of Sunday, September 4th at 10:30 AM ET. The race itself will be held on Sunday, September 4th at 2:37 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network starting at 2:00 PM ET.
