Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s Mikhail Aleshin, who drives a Honda-powered car, topped the speed charts in the first practice session for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race, the ABC Supply 500, around the 3-turn 2.5-mile tri-oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania with a fastest lap speed of 221.932 miles per hour.
James Hinchcliffe, Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, and Carlos Munoz rounded out the top 5 fastest drivers in this practice session. Each of those top 5 drivers except for Newgarden drives a Honda-powered car. Drivers of the Honda-powered cars took the top 2 and 4 of the top 5 spots on the speed charts in this first practice session. You can see full practice results at Indycar.com.
There will be no more practice session before qualifications. Qualifications for the race will take place today Saturday, August 20th, at 1:30 PM ET. The lone practice session after qualifications will take place today at 5:00 PM ET. The race itself will be held on Sunday, August 21st at 3:09 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network starting at 3:00 PM ET.
