Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s Mikhail Aleshin, who drives a Honda-powered car, topped the speed charts in the qualifying session for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race, the ABC Supply 500, around the 3-turn 2.5-mile tri-oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania with a 2-lap average speed of 220.445 miles per hour.
Josef Newgarden, Takuma Sato, Helio Castroneves and Carlos Munoz rounded out the top 5 fastest drivers in this qualifying session. Each of those top 5 drivers except for Newgarden and Castroneves drives a Honda-powered car. Drivers of the Honda-powered cars took 2 of the top 3 and 5 of the top 7 spots on the starting grid for the race in this qualification session. The lone practice session after qualifications will take place today at 5:00 PM ET. The race itself will be held on Sunday, August 21st at 3:09 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network starting at 3:00 PM ET.
