Utah Utes’ wide receiver Cory Butler-Byrd has been charged with criminal mischief. University police said that Butler-Byrd damaged a police car and a building last month.
Butler-Byrd was seen throwing a large white sign at a patrol car after police heard a loud pop and the sound of glass shattering. The patrol car had a broken back windshield and dented roof. A nearby building also had a broken window.
Butler-Byrd told police that he did damage the windows by throwing a piece of wood through them. Last week, Butler-Byrd was suspended indefinitely from the football team due to “personal issues” according to Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham.
