The Bills have a rising star in Tyrod Taylor at the quarterback position, and they have a rising star at the wide receiver position in Sammy Watkins as well. Taylor is already up there with some of the best running quarterbacks in the game like Cam Newton and Russell Wilson, and he is a consistently solid passer as well. Watkins is already among the league’s most explosive and athletic wide receivers. The Bills also have one of the league’s top running backs in LeSean McCoy, who can also be effective at catching the football out of the backfield. If the Bills’ offense can hit its stride, they will be tough to stop. Also, the Bills’ defense underachieved last season after some super high expectations, but are still loaded with talent nonetheless. Combine a well-oiled offensive Bills team with their talented defense, which includes cornerback Ronald Darby, who was one of the best defensive rookies last season, and you get a Bills team that, if they can find their groove on both sides of the ball, will have chance to win it all this season for the first time in franchise history.
The Dolphins looked like a really good team heading into last season, but failed to perform like they were expected too. The Dolphins have a quarterback in Ryan Tannehill who is young and has shown potential in the past. They also replaced running back Lamar Miller with an equally talented Arian Foster, who, if he can stay healthy, can easily be one of the NFL’s top running backs both on the ground and through the air. Their defense is solid, especially their defensive line, which includes star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and star defensive ends Mario Williams and Cameron Wake. But much like the Bills’ defense, the Dolphins’ defense failed to live up to expectations last season. Ff Foster can stay healthy all season, if wide receivers Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker as well as tight end Jordan Cameron, who has had 2 straight down seasons, can provide reliable options for Tannehill through the passing game on a regular basis, and if the Dolphins’ defense can actually live up to expectations this season, the Dolphins will be in contention for a Super Bowl title for sure.
New England Patriots
The Patriots have not failed to make the AFC championship game since the 2010 season. The have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time in Tom Brady under center. Even though he will miss 4 games to start the season due to his suspension from DeflateGate, he alone makes the Patriots a threat to go all the way each and every season. Add to that the fact that he has weapons like wide receiver Julian Edelman, who is one of the best route runners in the NFL, tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is consistently the best tight end in the NFL, and running back Dion Lewis, who proved last season that he is one of the best pass catching running backs in the NFL. Many people think that when Brady gets back from serving his suspension, he will become really irritated and want revenge on any team the Patriots face. Even if he doesn’t and just comes back as a normal Tom Brady, that alone makes the Patriots a threat to claim their 5th Lombardi Trophy in the 21st century.
New York Jets
The New York Jets have one of the best defenses in the NFL, particularly their defensive line, which includes star defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, and unlike the defenses of Buffalo and Miami, they actually proved it last season. Ryan Fitzpatrick at the quarterback position is a bit of an unknown, since last season he had many career highs in statistical categories and the Jets still failed to make the postseason, albeit going 10-6. However, not only does Fitzpatrick have one of the best 1-2 wide receiver tandems in the league at his disposal with wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, he also now has one of the best pass catching running backs in the NFL over the past decade in Matt Forte. I think Fitzpatrick will be able to not only match, but improve upon his statistics from last season, and that alone will make the Jets an automatic contender to win the Super Bowl given the high level they played at during last season and the fact that they only got better this past offseason.
