The Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has had a historic career. By setting numerous DH records and helping Boston end its World Series drought in 2004, there is no doubt Big Papi will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. However, the 2016 season is slowly winding down, and all of Red Sox Nation is wondering what their beloved team is going to do once Ortiz retires.
There are rumors that suggest that current first baseman Hanley Ramirez will take over for David Ortiz as the team’s new DH. David Ortiz said back in July that Boston should make an attempt to acquire Edwin Encarnacion from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox will definitely need to fill that whole in their lineup with someone and time will tell who that someone will be. Whether they try to make a trade, sign a free agent, or promote somebody in their own organization, it sure won’t be the same without Big Papi. Currently, the Red Sox are in contention for a wild card spot, which will give David Ortiz one last shot at winning his fourth championship. What better way to end your career than going out on top?
