Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, who drives a Chevrolet-powered car, topped the speed charts in qualifying for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race, the Honda Indy 200, around the 13-turn 2.258-mile natural terrain Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio for with a fastest lap time of 63.8700 seconds. It is Pagenaud’s 6th pole of the season and 8th of his career.
Will Power, Josef Newgarden, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and Charlie Kimball will round out the top 5 starting spots for tomorrow’s race. Each of those top 5 drivers, except for Ryan Hunter-Reay, who drives a Honda-powered car, drives a Chevrolet-powered car. Graham Rahal, last year’s Honda Indy 200 winner who drives a Honda-powered car, will roll off in 6th place. Drivers of the Chevrolet-powered cars took the top 3 and 6 of the top 8 spots on the starting grid for tomorrow’s race. You can see full qualifying results and a starting grid at Indycar.com.
The race warm-up will be tomorrow, Sunday, July 31st, from 10:15 AM ET to 10:45 AM ET. The race itself will be held tomorrow at 2:45 PM ET and will be broadcast on CNBC starting at 2:00 PM ET.
