Pagenaud Tops 1st Road America Practice

Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, who drives a Chevrolet-powered car, topped the time charts in the 1st practice session for this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series race around the 14-turn 4.048-mile Road America natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, with a lap time of 103.480 seconds. Pagenaud leads the championship standings by 80 points over Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon.

The fastest driver of a Honda-powered car was Carlos Munoz, who was 2nd fastest on the charts. Drivers of the Honda-powered cars took 6 of the top 9 spots on the speed charts for this practice. Josef Newgarden, who was just cleared to practice for this weekend’s race after sustaining injuries in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 12th, was 10th quickest during the session in a Chevrolet-powered car. The 2nd practice session will be held today at 4:00 PM ET. The 3rd practice session will be held tomorrow at 12:00 PM ET. Qualifications will be held tomorrow at 4:00 PM ET. The final practice session will be held on Sunday, June 26th, at 9:00 AM ET. The race itself will be held on Sunday at 1:15 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network starting at 1:00 PM ET.
