After being delayed for over 4.5 hours due to the rain and the high risk of crashes and damages to the cars and injuries to the drivers should the drivers drive the cars in the rain, the final pre-qualifications Indianapolis 500 practice is now underway.
The session was scheduled to take place from 8:00 AM ET to 10:00 AM ET, but there was no track activity during that time. Instead, practice was then scheduled from 11:00 AM ET to 12:00 PM ET, but did not happen then either. The practice session has just begun now, and will last roughly 40 minutes. This delay will bump qualifications, which were scheduled from 11:00 AM ET to 6:00 PM ET, back to roughly 2:00 PM ET and will run until 7:00 PM ET.
The practice that was delayed and has now begun is the final practice leading up to qualifications for the race itself today and Sunday. The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 at 11:00 AM ET.
