The Toronto Raptors have won their first playoff series since back in 2001, when they defeated the New York Knicks 3 games to 2 in a best-of-5 series in the opening round.
The Raptors defeated the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of a best-of-7 series this season by a score of 89-84 to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since 2001, when they lost 4 games to 3 against the Philadelphia 76ers. This is the 1st time the Raptors have won a best-of-7 series in team history.
Since defeating the Knicks back in 2001, the Raptors had been 0-6 in playoff series up until their series win against the Pacers. Their total record in playoff games starting from the 2001 Eastern Conference semifinals series against the 76ers was 11-23 before defeating the Pacers 4 games to 3 this season.
The No. 2 seed Raptors will take on the No. 3 seed Miami Heat in a best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals series this year, and the winner of that series will take on the winner of the best-of-7 series between the No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers and the No. 4 seed Atlanta Hawks for the right to represent the Eastern Conference in this year’s NBA Finals series.
